What is Botox?

Botox is a neurotoxin made from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. During your session, Botox is injected under the skin to weaken the muscle that is contributing to the formation of wrinkles. This results in the reduction or elimination of wrinkles in the skin.

What type of wrinkles can be treated with Botox:?

Botox can be injected into the Glabellar region, which is the area between the eyebrows that produces the vertical lines or “elevens”. Treatment of the forehead can help to relax the horizontal expression lines. The crow’s feet area, which is the region of lines that forms to outside of the side of each eye with smiling or laughing, can also be injected and relaxed. Smoker lines around the mouth and marionette lines that form at the edges of the mouth can be corrected with proper placement of neurotoxin. The brow can also be lifted using Botox.

There are different brands similar to botox. I offer Xeomin and Dysport. Both have the same main ingredient as Botox, botulinum A and work in a similar manner to relax wrinkles. Xeomin contains no additives and may be a good alternative for patients who develop a resistance to Botox, which can happen with continued use. Dysport  is a more diluted form of botox. It has a greater spread than botox and is used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles. Men may also be a better candidate for Dysport as well.
